Description
About the drop
Lwando Dlamini’s work explores the fragility of the human body and experience. This body of 6 works reinforces self awareness, and the importance of reflecting on the difficult fragments of our past which can be a discomforting experience. It is also about finding beauty in this process and meditating on the triumphant moments.
About the artist
Lwando Dlamini was born in the Eastern Cape but moved to the Western Cape as a young child. He currently lives and works between Cape Town and Johannesburg. He graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art and was awarded the 2018 David Koloane award.
About the gallery
Under The Aegis is a curatorial and art advisory company that produces exhibitions and facilitates the relationship between artists, collectors and institutional collections.
About the charity
2% of the sale of the works will be donated to Ruth Prowse School of Art: an NPC (non-profit company) and a tertiary education institution committed to being an art centre for the whole community. An extensive scholarship program has been put in place. The financial support aims to provide for full tuition fees for the full duration of the three-year program to deserving students from previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa. It is the mission of the school to redress the educational imbalances of the past by nurturing young talent for the future who do not have the resources. The Lwando Dlamini Art Prize is one of the contributors.
